Having a culture of accountability is essential to any organization in order to have effective execution. Without it, deadlines can be missed, quality may suffer, and conflicts between individuals and groups could occur.
We naturally look to the leader to hold people accountable. But what if people held themselves accountable? How much easier and more effective would it be in an organization? In addition, having the leader “hold” people accountable doesn’t appear very motivational. In fact, it seems more authoritarian than participative.
