This session is designed to be a supportive and content-driven space for discussion and skill development on having brave and sometimes difficult conversations on equity and inclusion at work. Session objectives ( will be accomplished via presentation with guided discussion, activities, and reflective prompts that focus on sustaining inclusive work environments while creating space for conversation and discourse.

Session objectives include the following: Learn and use best practices and strategies for active listening; Reflections on the implications of peer and team members’ social identities and lived experiences and how they manifest in the work environment; The goal is not for participants to become experts in DEI but rather how to engage, empower and support each other and not fear or shut down conversation, discourse and disagreement.

Nicole R. Stokes, Ph.D., - Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Saint Joseph’s University and Alissa Carpenter, M.Ed, Multi-Generational Workforce Expert Speaker and Training Facilitator

Dr. Nicole Stokes brings 25 years of academic and administrative experience along with a personal and professional commitment to promoting equity to her role as Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion/University Professor of Sociology at Saint Joseph’s University. She is the Chief Diversity Officer and a senior administrative officer who is responsible for overall strategic leadership to advance diversity, equity and inclusion. Dr. Stokes oversees the Center for Inclusion and Diversity (CID), Office of International Students and Scholars, and the Women’s Center. She is also a board member on the Forum for Education Abroad.
