Description:

Who deserves the chance to get better at their jobs? Who deserves the chance to access the latest information in their field? Most people would answer, “everyone.”

E-learning can be a great way to reach more people with your professional development offerings. But without purposeful planning, the technology could be a barrier to learners with disabilities.

Creating inclusive content is about more than just adding closed captions or checking off all the Section 508 or WCAG standards. In this session, you’ll get a deeper appreciation about the impact of your choices by experiencing assistive technology yourself and how individuals with disabilities would navigate your courses.

You’ll discover how to:

  • Assess the audience
  • Assess the skill
  • Assess the visuals
  • Assess the mechanics
  • Assess the language

You’ll walk away with new perspective about the decisions (and possibly assumptions) you are making and how to pivot to create more accessible offerings.

After attending this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify technology and design choices that might create a barrier to individuals with disabilities.
  • Adjust instructional design practices to be more inclusive.
  • Adjust technology decisions to be more inclusive.
